Open and Shut is a brief short story in the A Prefect Dreyfus Emergency spinoff series.

It is set between the novels Aurora Rising and Elysium Fire and acts as a bridge between their storylines. It can be read as a midquel between the two novels, or a prequel just before the events of Elysium Fire. The short story features prefect Dreyfus as its main character.

It was published on the Gollancz website in early 2018, prior to Elysium Fire's date of publication. [1] [2] [3]

It has not been published yet in any book anthology.
