A magnetic railgun was a large ranged projectile weapon, propelling projectiles forward via electromagnetic acceleration on a set of magnetically conductive rails.
By the 25th to 26th century, they were already considered a fairly outdated spacecraft or orbital defence weapon. However, they saw regular use in earlier centuries of Solar System colonisation and interstellar colonisation. One example was the railgun-equipped Automated Satellite Interdiction Network above Mars during the years of the Conjoiner-Coalition War.

- Railguns are a real world concept and have been researched, experimentally developed and occassionally tested for several decades. One of the main drawbacks of such projectile weaponry is the size required for the weapon to work properly, with the conductive rails propelling the projectile forward at a high enough speed.
