Language seems to be an emergent property of some forms of life, as it evolved multiple times in different planetary systems. Sometimes it is connected to a physical aspect of the user, such as being produced as sounds by a speech vocal system, or depending on a communicant having a certain sense organ (Amarantins use their widely-set eyes to read and write in stereo, for instance); other times technological mediation is the main determiner for the form of the language. Some species have designed systems to detect and/or translate a language not primarily used by the system operator, with varying levels of automation.
