Captain Heckel was the Ultranaut leader of the lighthugger Third Gazometric, present in the 107 Piscium system in 2727.
His body was noted to be heavily modified, strapped into a ghastly mobility suit. Heckel and the crew of his home vessel was willing to entertain Dean Quaiche's request that they provide long-term protection for the planet Hela.
This agreement for protection was contingent on certain trade benefits, as well as the blacklisting of several competitors, such as the lighthuggers Transfigured Night, Madonna of the Wasps, and Silence Under Snow. Irrespective of Heckel's demands, Quaiche and his lieutenant Grelier were hesitant to make the arrangement, as the Third Gazometric was in poor overall condition.
