A deep-system cruiser was a larger type of interplanetary policing and patrol vessel, used mainly in the Epsilon Eridani system by the Yellowstone Demarchy.
DSCs were quite often used in collaboration with the Panoply, whose law enforcement personnel (prefects) generally did not have authorisation to use ships larger than their agency's patrol cutters. During these police actions, DSCs were utilised in operations such as approaching suspect rogue Ultranaut crews and the like.
Due to the dearth of lighthuggers available to Demarchists and other customers in the later decades of the Belle Epoque and beyond, deep-system cruisers were often the fastest ships available to intercept another interplanetary vessel or a resting lighthugger. It was noted that if an Ultranaut crew decided to simply escape the system with their lighthugger, there was little the crew of a deep-system cruiser could do to prevent such a move. This necessitated a certain degree of careful planning for any police actions involving deep-system cruisers.
